The fact that one in two marriages ends in divorce today proves that marriage isnt always easy and sometimes relationships are beyond repair. Couples split for all sorts of reasons, but what happens when the charming person you married turns out to be a con? Do you endure the lies, the affairs, the emotional abuse, and financial ruin, or do you escape and try to rebuild your shattered life?
In their new, inspiring book, "Mirrored Lives: The True Story of Two Women, One Man, and the Betrayals That Brought Them Together" (Cameo Publications, $17.95, 0-9744149-0-5), co-authors Jan Lander and Lib Lander explore how they each survived and escaped a disastrous marriage with the same man, forged an unusual friendship with each other, and became stronger women in the process.
Honest and thought-provoking, Mirrored Lives recounts Jan Landers and Lib Landers life journeys. Their lives were indeed mirrored: one white, one black, one from the North, the other from the South, both from small towns, both in the education field, both falling for the same mans pattern of behavior. Lib became his first wife, Jan his second. His name was Sidney Lander- a highly educated, charismatic, and power-hungry Pentagon political figure. He was also a controlling con man who lived in the moment. He could go from being a warm and loving husband to a cold and cruel stranger in the blink of an eye. Jan and Lib both tried to understand their husbands behavior, but neither was able. They experienced the same heartbreak and self-blame when each of their marriages ended, almost 20 years apart. Their common bond produced a valuable friendship between the two and an unusual extended family.
The authors hope sharing their story will encourage readers to realize it is possible to overcome the loss of a dream. Life is a journey with peaks and valleys and some of the most difficult experiences we face often teach us the most valuable lessons. By learning that acceptance and forgiveness are more empowering than regret and hate, readers can leave survival mode" and move their life into one of limitless possibilities."
Lib Lander is an elementary school teacher and Jan Lander is an educational consultant. They collaborated on this book to help inspire others to live life to the fullest, no matter what comes their way.
