Effective Information Security strategy important as worrying statistics increase

Research and Markets have announced the addition of the 'Information Security: Setting the Boardroom Agenda' report to their offering.

A blue-print for an effective information security strategy for board members and senor executives including IT directors, chief information officers and risk analysts within major companies.

There is no shortage of worrying statistics about information security. Almost half of UK businesses have had at least one malicious information security incident in the last year ... the average cost of a serious security incident was 30,000 ... some security incidents could cost over 500,000. Directors are often inundated with this information, yet scaremongering does not help and can obscure the fact that the risks are very real. Accepting this isn't enough; appropriate board-level action is needed.

A key feature of Information security: Setting the boardroom agenda, is
that it does not simply rehearse a long list of worrying statistics. Rather, it aims to offer practical help in the development of
information strategy. It focuses on the questions board members should be asking. The answers will not always be simple: as the report suggests, board members will on occasion have to manage complex trade-offs and conflicting priorities.

Too often, boards see information security as a sunk cost. It needn't be so. There are two immediate benefits springing from a sound information security strategy. The first concerns the companyÍs competitive edge, the second its internal cultural environment. Board members will find this report useful in helping them develop these benefits in an innovative way. Its practical recommendations, insights and tools provide a springboard for them to ensure that the management of information security can provide a highly-effective source of competitive differentiation.
