Bylines 2004 - a Desk Calendar By, For and About Writers
(Spokane, WA - November 17, 2003) - A new writers calendar is on the market that celebrates the reality of the writing life with stories and comments by 53 not-so-famous writers. Many writers calendars have been produced that spotlight the musings of famous authors, but Bylines 2004 Writers Desk Calendar highlights emerging and established writers who havent made the best seller list. Yet. The freelance journalists, playwrights, poets and screen writers comments hold a right-here-right-now relevance for other writers.
Bylines was created and self-published by Linda Hagen Miller, a freelance magazine writer who found encouragement in the friendship and support of other writers.
All of the writers in Bylines are working (some might say struggling) to make a living at the craft, and they are all helplessly devoted to putting words on paper. These writers arent on the pedestal of fame, they are in the trenches, making at least a portion of their living at work they cannot walk away from.
Each week has a different writer with a black and white photo of them in their element. An adventure writer holds her mountain bike over head in front of a backdrop of the Pyrenees Mountains. A screenwriter is hunkered down in front of his television set with junk food and reference material at his elbows. A mother who rises at 4 a.m. to write is surrounded by her three children. A Native American who writes tribal stories is pictured in full Indian regalia
Their comments underline the necessity of persevering in the face of repeated rejections and they celebrates the relief that comes from poking fun at oneself. In sharing their personal experiences, these writers provide a strong dose of reality tempered with encouragement with unfailingly optimism.
