NUMBER PROTABILITY TO BE WINDFALL FOR CHARITIES

Effective November 24, the Federal Communications Commission has mandated Local Number Portability (LPN) that will permit consumers, for the first time, to roll their home telephone numbers over to their cell phones, or, switch from one cell phone service provider to another and maintain their phone numbers.

Analysts and industry insiders predict 30 -- 40 million U.S. wireless customers will join an unprecedented migration to new service providers. As the majority of cell phones in the marketplace are not compatible across service networks, the FCC ruling will create an unbelievable amount of used cell phones.

Cell Phone Hell" for wireless carriers is just around the corner -- and -- it is a heavenly phenomenon for charities across the country. How so?

The Charitable Recycling Program encourages the donation of used cell phones and provides a monetary contribution to the charity of choice for each cell phone
donated -- regardless of age or condition. With offices in the U.S., Canada and China, the Charitable Recycling Team assists global wireless customers and the environment by making it cost-free and convenient to dispose of used cell phones. Because cell phones and their batteries contain hazardous materials that can harm the environment if not disposed of properly, it is important to know how and where to recycle e-waste.

Recycling benefits more than the environment. Recycled cell phones are used for social good as many donated phones are distributed to 911 (emergency only) services, providing battered adults, children and senior citizens with a direct link to the assistance they need. Charitable Recycling also provides donated phones to medical patients awaiting organ transplants, Vietnam Veterans and Indian reservations on an ongoing basis.    Other recovered phones are reused in less developed countries where the cost of a new phone is often prohibitive, or, in emerging areas of the world where there are no land (wire) lines. Obsolete used cell phones are destroyed in an environmentally-responsible manner, with 100% landfill diversion.

The Charitable Recycling Program accepts and makes donation payments to nearly 1,000 member partners (charities/fundraisers) for each and every cell phone collected -- even if the phones arent operational. Participating member partners who have found that Charitable Recycling significantly helps achieve fundraising goals include; United Way, Ronald McDonald House, National Wildlife Federation, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital, Los Angeles Police Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, Habitat for Humanity, Locks of Love and Salvation Army. The many charities we have utilizing cell phone collection drives demonstrate every day that waste prevention and recycling are more than just sound business
practices -- they provide astounding charitable advantages as well" states Beth Morawski, Charitable Recycling Program Manager. By integrating cell phone recycling into their business operations, they not only see genuine environmental benefits, but contributory advances as well. We salute their vision and leadership in proving cell phone recycling is a winner for businesses."

The FCC has posted on its consumer and government affairs web site relevant facts to guide consumers through the LPN opportunity that begins November 24. More information about the Charitable Recycling opportunity can be found at
