After releasing two critically acclaimed LPs, The True Meaning (June 25, 2002) and The Realness (July 24, 2001), on his own independent label, Legal Hustle Records, Cormega has won his first Source Award in the new category of Independent Album of the Year for The True Meaning.

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2003 --Legal Hustle Records (New York, NY) - After releasing two critically acclaimed LPs, The True Meaning (June 25, 2002) and The Realness (July 24, 2001), on his own independent label, Legal Hustle Records, Cormega has won his first Source Award in the new category of Independent Album of the Year for The True Meaning. Within the last two years, Cormega has independently sold over 250,000 albums on his own - without the backing of a major label, distributor, radio, or video exposure.

The Independent Album Of The Year category was not televised due to time constraints, however, Cormega honored by the recognition released the following statement, Winning the Independent Artist of the Year Award is redeeming because it shows that Im finally being recognized for hard work. My first two albums are critically acclaimed, but this is the first time Im being acknowledged for consistently putting out good music." He adds, Being an independent artist is about having freedom and being able to dictate my own career. Creatively I can come out when I want and make music that I know my fans will like without selling out my style."

Cormega is currently working on three projects at the same time. Right now, Im executive producing a compilation album titled Legal Hustle which features some of the music that fans have been waiting for from the Ayatollah compilation and tracks from the Legal Hustle vault and working on my next solo album, Urban Legend, and a DVD," explains Cormega. The project will be released on Legal Hustle Records and distributed by Selecto Hits.

On his third solo album, Urban Legend, also to be released on Legal Hustle Records, Cormega returns to the same formula that made his debut album, The Realness, a hip-hop classic with one exception. Unlike his earlier albums, Cormega plans to feature a few artists on Urban Legend that his fans would be surprised to hear on a Cormega album. Most rappers do songs with certain artists, just to sell more records, but Im not with that. Music should not rely on the strength of guest appearances, so when I choose an artist to collaborate with, theyll always be people who I respect regardless of their status in the game. He hints that the other artist are 'urban legends themselves and only reveals a few names including Big Daddy Kane, KRS-1, and Doņa (pronounced Donya), the first artist signed to Legal Hustle. Doņa is incredible!!! I cant even explain how she rhymes. When you hear her, youre gonna be curious to see how she looks because she sounds like shes real gutter and ugly." Doņas album, My Brothers Keeper, will drop Summer 2004, but until then you can hear her featured alongside Cormega on The Bond," from the Legal Hustle album. The song will also appear on her debut album.

On each album, I try to grow as an artist. My first album, The Realness, was a real grimy street album because thats where I was back then. The True Meaning was more mature with ghetto tales like Soul Food" and Live Ya Life." Urban Legend has similar lyrical concepts, but with the sound of The Realness." To achieve that sound, Cormega revisited the producers who did the beats for The Realness, so that Urban Legend would have the same feel. Urban Legend features production from J. Love, Big Tai, J Supreme, Emile, D.R. Period, and upcoming producer, Michael Washington. With the exception of newcomer, Michael Washington, and rising producer, Emile, all the other producers on Urban Legend also contributed to The Realness.

Cormega also plans to release a DVD around the same time as the Urban Legend drops which will include behind the scenes footage of his everyday life, in the studio, at concerts. The DVD will also include never before seen exclusive music videos from The Realness and The True Meaning including The Come Up" featuring Large Professor, Built For This," Get Out My Way" and RU My Nigga."
