(PRWEB) November 19, 2003 --Suddenly, and without any warning, India Policy Institute's (IPI) domain, www.indiapolicy.org which was functioning uninterruptedly for nearly five years, was illegally taken into possession on the 1st of July 2003 by one Subroto Roy, a Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT). The Board of IPI has condemned the act and demanded that the domain be returned. In October, 2003 after requests failed to get the domain back, the Institute (IPI) lodged a complaint with the Police in USA against a volunteer of IPI who alienated the domain to Roy.
Roy either used, or accepted voluntarily, the services of an intermediary volunteer who was entrusted by Directors of IPI with its domain records in August 2002 in good faith, as part of various contributions of effort and funds received by IPI from time to time. Subroto Roy claims that he has received the domain as a gift. If someone were to offer microsoft.com to another person, for instance, would that person not want to check if Microsoft has authorized the offer?
IPI has been forced to quickly purchase www.indiapolicyinstitute.org to 'keep its head above water and minimize further damage to its public activities and reputation. IPI is examining other options. It is likely that further criminal and civil cases will be lodged against those concerned.
