BabyMint to Enable Investors to Convert Airline Frequent Flyer Miles Into Virtually Any 529 College Savings Plan

New Program May Unlock Millions of Dollars in Assets for Individuals with Dormant Rewards Miles

ATLANTA (PRWEB) November 20, 2003 -- Vesdia Corporation, a global leader in the field of microinvesting technology, announced today it will begin providing members of its BabyMint college savings accelerator program the ability to convert the value of their miles or points in multiple airline, hotel, and retailer rewards programs into virtually any 529 college savings plan or Coverdell educational savings account.

Traditionally through the BabyMint program, individual investors receive up to a 20% rebate whenever they shop through a network of more than 500 merchants, including Gap, Barnes & Noble, Dell, Blockbuster, and others. Vesdias technology tracks the transaction from the point of purchase and deposits the merchant rebates into the participants designated savings vehicle. Through a new partnership with Toronto-based Points International, in addition to the rebates earned through their everyday purchases, BabyMint participants will now have the ability to redeem miles and points from a variety of rewards programs -- including America West Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Cathay Pacific and InterContinental Hotels -- into their BabyMint rebate point account, the value of which can be transferred into the 529 plan or Coverdell educational savings account of their choice.

Clearly, this is an exceptional enhancement for the BabyMint program -- a new and unique way for our participants to work towards the achievement of their college savings goals," said Peter G. Davis, chief executive officer of Vesdia Corporation. With more than 80 million people enrolled in frequent flyer programs, this new capability has the potential to convert dormant miles or points into tremendous value for parents and families," continued Davis. According to a recent report by Financial Research Corporation, microinvesting programs -- such as those operated by Vesdia -- have the potential to capture more than $21.7 billion annually in eligible shopping transactions, representing an incremental $1.1 billion per year in assets to individual investors and their financial institutions.

The ability for participants in multiple airline, hotel, and retailer rewards programs to convert the value of their miles or points into virtually any savings or investment account should prove to be a boon for individual investors," says Jordan Goodman, an eighteen-year veteran of Money Magazine and author of Everyones Money Book," a best-selling book on personal finance. Clearly, this is a significant development in the field of microinvesting."

Vesdia also expects to provide the points conversion enhancement to participants in its NestEggz retirement savings program. Similar to the BabyMint college savings program, NestEggz allows individual investors to earn rebates at participating merchants. However, instead of linking to educational savings plans, the program enables its members to save towards their retirement goals by linking to tax-advantage individual retirement accounts (IRAs).
