From a field of 300 applicants, two Brooklyn entrepreneurs seeking to open a restaurant in Fort Greene, Brooklyn win top Prize of $10,000 in start up money and $9,000 in business services.

Entrepreneurial Duo Take Top Award in Brooklyn Public Library's PowerUP! Business Plan Competition!

Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowit, joined Brooklyn business leaders and bankers, representatives from the Brooklyn Public Library Business Branch, and sponsors of the contest in announcing the winner of the first Brooklyn Public Library's PowerUP! Business Plan competition Saturday, November 15, 2003.

The top award of $10,000 plus $9,000 in business related services went to Farid Ali and his partner George Constantinou who are working on bringing a restaurant to the Fort Greene area of Brooklyn, New York.

George Constantinou is currently manager of Night of the Cookers, a restaurant featuring southern cuisine, in Fort Greene area of Brooklyn.

Farid Ali is a web designer, writer and photographer. His background includes working at restaurants such as the Russian Tea Room and Le Palm in New York and The Good Spirit in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
