American author Dan Bloom, residing overseas in
Taiwan since 1991, has hit on a savvy and simple
way of promoting his new self-help book. He
rented a pushcart at the local night market and
began selling the book himself at a 50% discount
from the retail price. The result, bestseller
status for his book, widespread media coverage in
the Chinese-language newspapers and on TV across
Taiwan, and national name and face recognition.
Bloom, 54, suggests, "Writers might think about
taking their books directly to the people. If it
works here in Taiwan, it could work anywhere."
