Film Development

We have recently purchased the rights to a screenplay for a romantic comedy with the working title, Once Upon a Time in Paris (a.k.a. Say it in Russian). The film will be shot on 35mm, in the English language, with some French and Russian, and marketed internationally. We are in pre-production on this screenplay, with a planned shoot for this summer at Mosfilm Studios in Moscow, and on location in Russia, Paris and California. We plan to utilize the contacts we have made with Autograph to arrange for stars such as Bo Derek, Patrick Bauchau, and Rade Sherbedgia to play small pivotal roles in the film. We will seek a top name star to play the male lead. The project has a $3 million budget, which management estimates will be the equivalent of a $9 million budget, if shot in America, due to low cost labor and facilities available in Russia.

Plot Summary

Andrew, a recently divorced professional man, goes on vacation to Europe, where he intends to live his dream of being a starving artist like the impressionist masters of France. He meets up with some fellow travelers on the plane, hangs out with them, and never gets past Paris, where he is set up on a blind date with a young Russian girl, Daria, who has also recently broken up from a relationship with Jean-Louis, a controlling Frenchman, who is not prepared to let her go. Daria takes a liking to Andrew, and invites him to her father's wedding in Moscow to his sixth bride, the spectacular looking Victoria. Daria's father, Raf, is a rich Russian mafia oligarch, who immediately assumes his daughter and Andrew are the next ones to be married. In the grand spectacle of the wedding, set up against the backdrop of the beauty of Moscow, Andrew and Daria fall in love. Andrew starts "commuting" to Paris to visit Daria. Andrew proposes marriage, and Daria accepts. At about the same time, Raf starts to have problems with the Kremlin, and escapes Moscow with Victoria, on his way to exile in England. Because of her fathers situation, Daria is in danger and, to make matters worse, the U.S. Consulate in Paris refuses her a fiancé visa to the United States. Andrew, in his desperation, concocts a plan to smuggle Daria into the United States and to safety through the Mexican border.
