Roving Networks Announces Availability of BlueSentryTM Wireless Sensor Modules

Roving Networks Inc., a provider of intelligent network appliances utilizing BluetoothTM wireless connectivity, today announced the availability of BlueSentryTM, a Bluetooth compatible sensor interface module.

Los Gatos, Calif., November 21, 2003/ - Roving Networks Inc., a provider of intelligent network appliances utilizing BluetoothTM wireless connectivity, today announced the availability of BlueSentryTM, a Bluetooth compatible sensor interface module. The device is a complete, wireless enabled data acquisition and output control unit, measuring only 3 x 1 inches in size. Powered by AA batteries, car batteries, or any 5-25VDC source, BlueSentry can acquire up to 8, 0-5V inputs at high (16bit) resolution and send this information to Bluetooth- enabled clients, LANs or anywhere on the Internet. The device can also be wirelessly linked to a paired output module, BlueSentry-DA, to replicate 4 analog channels at a distance of more than 300 feet.

Typical applications for the device include process control monitoring, motion detection, temperature/humidity sensing, stress and strain gauges, fluid and gas metering, and scores of other applications where physical cabling is not possible or desirable.

We have a wireless application where we are using the BlueSentry sensor adapter to record pressure and supply an excitation voltage to our pressure transducer," said Shabbir Ezzi, a software and project engineer at Koehler Instruments. We have a battery power source, so the "Sleep" feature allows us to monitor for a longer period of time without replacing batteries. Using the Blue Sentry was a snap and I was able to retrieve data in about less than an hour from the time I received the unit. I like the fact that Roving Networks was willing to meet our customized needs on this unit," Ezzi said.

Available now in evaluation quantities, the product is priced at $299 per unit.
