Using PASSPORT Terminal Emulation as an ActiveX Document

Zephyr Solution Offers Programmatic Client Integration

Using PASSPORT Terminal Emulation as an ActiveX Document

Zephyr Solution Offers Programmatic Client Integration

The 2004 version of PASSPORT PC TO HOST can be used as an

ActiveX Document, offering a programmatic integration solution at the

client level. In doing so, the full terminal emulation runs within the

framework of a corporate-developed application to quickly interface with

3270, 5250, VT220 and SCO/ANSI host applications via the screen

presentation layer.

The appeal of this approach is two-fold: it's inexpensive and makes

extensive use of the vast amount of programming knowledge in this area. For

companies that have standardized on
Windows XP or Windows 2000, and need an updated architectural model for

this type of API development, PASSPORT should be considered.

Already, Zephyr clients have used this API to create productivity-enhancing

applications that rely on the PASSPORT emulation session for communication

with the host. In most cases, these same customers also needed to reuse

existing Attachmate, IBM or NetManage API applications and reuse Attachmate

macros, which the 2004 version of PASSPORT provides.

The simplified, screen-based API includes the following functions:

GetRows (returns the number of rows)
GetCols (returns the number of columns)
GetCursorRow (returns the current row position)
GetCursorCol (returns the current cursor position)
SetCursor (positions the cursor at a new position)
GetString (returns a text string from the screen)
SendString (copies a text string to the emulator screen)
SendKeys (sends ANSI characters to the host)
SendAID (sends host function key)
GetOIA (returns text in the Operator Information Area)
ExecMenuCmd (sends menu command to PASSPORT)
RunMacro (runs a specified macro with PASSPORT)

If you have questions regarding this application development option, we

encourage you to schedule a conference call with Zephyr to discuss your

requirements with our development staff or email specific questions to

sales@zephyrcorp.com.
