KUA Adopts New Conservation Rate

The conservation rate adds financial incentive to those residential customers who use less power.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (PRWEB) November 26, 2003 -- 8:00 pm -- At tonight's meeting of the Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) Board of Directors, the Board approved a new conservation incentive rate which is intended to reward those customers who practice energy conservation. The 5-0 approval vote came after a public hearing on the rate.
The conservation rate adds financial incentive to those residential customers who use less power. Historically, KUA has charged a flat energy charge for each kilowatt-hour used by a customer, regardless of how much energy is used. Under the new rate, the energy charge will be lower ($0.06807 per kWh) if monthly consumption is less than or equal to 1,000 kWh and higher ($0.07601 per kWh) if consumption is greater than 1,000 kWh.
For example, a customer using 900 kWh per month will realize a $5.33 or 7.4 percent savings under the new rate, while a customer using 1,100 kWh would see an increase of $2.18 or 2.5 percent. The monthly customer charge will remain the same for all residential customers.
The conservation rate will take effect on January 1, 2004.
Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's sixth largest community-owned utility serving 61,000 electric, water and Internet customers in five Central Florida counties.
