Waltham, Mass: Emerging financial experts are all eyes and ears at recent seminar geared towards maximizing image presence in interview settings.
The objective of Babsons Finance Immersion Program (FIP) is to help exceptional MBA students interested in financial careers prepare for internships and permanent employment after graduation. Every year, approximately a dozen students are selected to participate in the FIP. The program holds a series of events to help the professional development of these hand picked students. FIP events for 2003-2004 include speakers on Self Assessment, Careers in Finance, Marketing Yourself, Forums on Investment Management, Managing your Professional Image and Trends in Corporate Finance
On November 20, 2003, these ardent MBA students assembled to spend a few valuable hours to learn to manage their Professional Image.
Emerging job seekers face a daunting challenge in todays market. Candidates must successfully distinguish themselves amongst a very large pool of competitive candidates for coveted positions. They need to dress to be hired," learn the value of their own brand, and package it well, so that they can be discerned as The Hirable Candidate. Evangelia D. Souris, president of OPTIMUM International Center for Image Management, is the expert to teach them how. These seminars are invaluable for those who know that todays job market is extremely tough, and to successfully penetrate it, one can not just rely on education and experience," said Souris. It is essential to present an image that will distinguish one as the Best of Breed, in character, appearance and mannerisms." Evidently, the students agreed. They all came dressed in their interview suits" and eagerly anticipated a wardrobe evaluation".
What did students learn? Proven image communication strategies and techniques to achieve hiring objectives. In todays job marketplace, success often depends upon a persons ability to rank the highest in every category of the job requirement list – including image. According to research studies, people who upgrade a mediocre presence to a more polished one receive a higher salary-15-20%. The Harvard Business School Club advises its members that interviewers generally decide whom they wont hire within 7 seconds; discrimination based on appearance is pervasive in the workplace, and many mangers will not hire someone based on appearance. To this, Souris added, While dressing for success may make a positive, initial impression; its the lasting impression that counts. A lasting impression is compromised of verbal and nonverbal communication, dress and etiquette. Building confidence in ones appearance can free up job seekers to concentrate on these other critical areas during an interview."
The seminars/lectures was facilitated by OPTIMUM International Center for Image Management's President and Founder, Evangelia D. Souris, author of twelve seminars on the application of image strategies in developing optimal personal, professional and organizational presence. She is a Certified International Image Consultant to numerous clients both in the US and abroad.
