Texas (PRWEB) November 28, 2003 --

Thirty-five area 4-Hers crossed the stage Monday, November 24 to accept their Gold Stars during the South Plains 46th annual banquet and recognition ceremony at Texas Tech Universitys United Spirit Arena.

Receiving the Gold Star award is the crowning achievement of a 4-H career, according to Pam Foster, 4-H regional program director with Texas Cooperative Extension, a part of the Texas A&M University System.

The Gold Star Award is the highest 4-H honor presented at the county level. To qualify, a 4-Her must be at least 15 years of age and have completed three years of club work. They must fully participate in activities and must have completed a record book.

The award is intended to stimulate winners to higher achievement and to encourage other young people to participate in the county 4-H program," said Brad Davis, regional Extension 4-H specialist.

Extension teamed with area Electric Cooperatives, including Bailey County Electric Cooperative Association, Big Country Electric Cooperative, Inc., Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative, Inc., Lamb County Electric Cooperative, Inc., Lea County Electric Cooperative, Inc., Lighthouse Electric Cooperative, Inc., Lyntegar Electric Cooperative, Inc., South Plains Electric Cooperative, Inc., and Swisher Electric Cooperative, Inc. to sponsor the event.

Davis and Jett Major, district Extension administrator, presented the 2003 awards.
