United Nations Foundation Senior Advisor Pays Special Visit to Denver

A Senior Advisor from the UN Foundation will keynote an event featuring the premiere of a public television production highlighting the work of Pathfinder International, a non-profit organization focused on reproductive health

Gillian Sorensen, Senior Advisor to the United Nations Foundation will address local Denver residents at a briefing hosted by Pathfinder International, a leading international family planning and reproductive health organization. The event will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver at 5:30 p.m.

Ms. Sorensen plans to talk about HIV/AIDS in Africa and the increasing number of AIDS orphans. She will show a 90 second film titled Apathy is Lethal." The short film was funded by the United Nations Foundation.

The evening will also feature the premiere of Because Nobody Goes There," a new production by The Visionaries, an award-winning public television series that profiles nonprofit organizations working to bring about positive social change. The program follows the work of Pathfinder representatives in India and Kenya, educating communities about family planning and reproductive health and providing care for people living with HIV/AIDS.        

Sorensen was appointed Senior Advisor to the UN Foundation in October 2003. Her role with the foundation is to expand and mobilize support for the UN and its partners across the United States. Prior to her current role, Sorensen served for seven years as Assistant Secretary-General for External Relations under the leadership of Secretary-General Annan where she was the contact person for the Secretary-General and civil society, including thousands of NGOs. She also served as Special Adviser for Public Policy to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali where her duties included directing the United Nations' worldwide 50th Anniversary Commemoration in 1995.
