Family Practice Physician Assistant Conference Smashing Success, Says President PA Charlene Morris!

The Association of Family Practice Physician Assistants held its largest ever fifth annual CME conference "Urgent Care in Family Practice" Nov. 19-23 03 in San Antonio, Texas.

Charlene Morris, President of AFPPA reports that approximately 400 physician assistants/associates from across the nation attended their largest conference ever at the Westin River Walk Hotel in downtown San Antonio this past week. PA Morris, of Glasgow, KY, is extremely pleased with the quality and enthusiasm at this conference. She noted "AFFPA conference attendees had a wide variety of exceptional medical topics from which to choose, and medical education hours awarded exceeded those of previous meetings." Ms. Morris continued "We aspire to be THE autumn conference PAs wish to attend. Being in Sunny San Antonio soothes the pre-holiday stress and allows us to meet with PAs from throughout the US and Canada and in past years, internationally".    

This years conference was approved by the American Academy of Physician Assistants for a maximum of 38 hours of Category I Continuing Medical Education credits, preapproved by AAPA. For the first time, additional Category I adjunct dinner sessions being offered and well-attended during the conference.

In addition to 48 lectures, the program also featured 4 workshops, including "Cool Cryosurgery you can use TODAY" given by Pam Scott and "Dollars and Sense Medical Coding" by Jim Meeks. Attending for the first year in AFPPA history were both the current AAPA national president, Pam Scott and the President-elect, Julie Theriault. Ms. Theriault gave the presentation "Pride of the Family Practice PA". For the first time, the conference offered a keynote series. Speakers included: David Mittman-- who wove an inspired talk which he described as "radical" and "forward thinking" on the PA Profession future and Rick Dehn and Bob Blumm, each a distinguished writer and orator.

Registration Fees were affordable and many students attended the activites from national universities. These included PA students and pre-PA students-- both groups were welcomed and enjoyed meeting practicing Physician Assistants / Associates. Many students volunteered throughout the conference. performing essential duties.

Nationally acclaimed radio personality Zorba Paster, MD is the planned keynote speaker for 2004's AFPPA conference. Dr. Paster is a Family Medicine physician, speaker, author and host of NPRs "On Your Health" http://www.wpr.org/zorba/.

AFPPA's 6th Annual Conference and Review is titled "The Sum of Our Parts-- Family Medicine Today" and will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel in San Antonio November 3-7 2004.
