(PRWEB) November 30, 2003 - CreditCall, EMV - Chip and PIN software specialist, today announced that is it the first company in the world to offer a free online 'pre-built' evaluation EMV Toolkit. The launch follows the identification that in-house technical development teams are struggling to cope with the time pressures of delivering EMV certification for 2004. CreditCall's toolkit is downloadable from www.emvx.co.uk, where developers can take the pain out of their EMV projects.
CreditCall has identified that technical development teams are taking longer than scheduled - sometimes as long as months or even years - in their efforts to develop in-house solutions to convert ATMS, EPOS units, kiosks and other stand-alone Windows-based terminals to handle EMV transactions. This process can take as little as just days with pre-built EMV Kernels, and this is the first time that developers have been able to download such a kit online.
It is expected that almost all European cardholders, and a similar proportion of point of sale terminals and ATMs, will be Chip and PIN enabled by the end of 2004. But CreditCall's startling discovery has highlighted how severe disruptions may occur. Companies need to be able to avoid project slippage by being able to port in pre-tested and compliant solutions, which will ensure the process meets the EMV deadlines.
CreditCall's EMV Toolkit consists of two products: EmvX and EMV.LIB. EmvX runs natively on the Windows platform meaning it is faster and more reliable than solutions based on interpreted languages such as Java. Another remarkable achievement is the Windows CE version which allows the new generation of portable devices to have EMV capability. EMV.LIB has a very small memory footprint and is aimed at terminals where processor speed is particularly low, such as legacy ATMs and handheld terminals.
Nick McGarvey, Managing Director of CreditCall, said: "Time is running out rapidly for developers to convert the thousands of PC-based point of sale and other terminals in daily use that are only equipped to deal with magnetic-stripe credit and debit cards. Developers are beginning to see that building an EMV certified system is not time- or cost-effective, which is why there is such a demand for an online EMV Toolkit."
