Melanie Shelby has been endorsed by an impressive number of elected officials as well as business and community leaders.
Among other issues, her platform includes affordable housing, community policing, an uptown arts district and promoting positive messages about Oakland

Professionally, Shelby is a local public affairs manager for Pacific Gas and Electric.
Melanie has built a solid track record working effectively in the private sector, with government agencies, local organizations and residents.
Born and raised in Citrus Heights, California, Melanie received her bachelor's degree in Sociology at UCLA. Upon graduation, she worked at UCLA recruiting African American, Latino and Native American students.
In 1997, Melanie became the first African American and then youngest person to be appointed to the Planning Commission for the newly incorporated City of Citrus Heights.
