Our Burden is Light
written and directed by Denise Coates
A redemption drama with the soundtrack of our lives, composed by Nate Mendel of the Foo Fighters (who also acts in the film).
Nothing in painter Karen Moones life fits. Like the punk music that her boyfriend sings, everything is disjointed, distorted, and disturbed. Karens father died when she was young and in dealing with her mothers loneliness and depression, the fabric binding their lives has become frayed to the point of breaking. The breaking point finally occurs when Karens mother commits suicide.
Kyle Elliot, a yuppie jingle writer, faces a similarly discordant life. He gave up his dream of being a touring musician in order to please his money-grubbing social-climber -of –a-wife.
Fate brings Karen and Kyle together at the same dark and rainy bus stop where they are mugged and left for dead. An angelic stranger, Sam, finds them and takes them into the abandoned church hes been hired to renovate. After Karen and Kyle awaken, both realize they have amnesia. Before they rediscover who they are, they fall in love, finding that away from reality, their romance is able to come to a full blossom.
Once Karen and Kyle do remember who they are, they must each decide whether to go back to their old, unsatisfying life or together, embrace a new life filled with passion as they follow their dreams.
