Chikaboo is a web page monitoring service free of charge. Chikaboo is easy to use: Just enter the address of the website and your e-mail address.

A new type of free service has been released at the Internet. A web page monitoring service called Chikaboo at www.chikaboo.com

Other web monitoring services charge for the service and is often a monitoring of servers, if it is up or down, and is a service for webmasters. Chikaboo.com is different in any ways; it's a service for ordinary users of the Internet, and it is free.

"It all started when I was unemployed" says Soren Nielsen who is the originator of chikaboo.com, and continues: " I was looking for a new job when I realized that many companies seeks new staff only on there own websites. So I made a list of interesting companies all over the country and once or twice a week I looked at their job-sites. But the list grow longer and longer and it became overwhelming to do this by hands".

But no one offered a service on the Internet that for no charge could help Soren Nielsen.

"Well I thought - I'm a programmer so why not just make an application who will do the job for me; let the machines do the dirty work. So I just started writing a little program in Java and later I made it into a website".

Chikaboo.com is easy to use: just find the web page resource you want to monitor, copy and past the address into the form on chikaboo.com and then write your e-mail address. That's all.

"Firstly, the web site will be tested for accessibility from Chikaboo" says Soren Nielsen and continues: "Secondly, a test will be conducted to determine whether it is possible to detect changes to the web site. And finally, monitoring of the web site will be initiated. If any changes are detected, you will be informed by e-mail."

The monitoring will be carried out for about three weeks. Thereafter you will receive an e-mail asking whether you want to continue.

Originally the name of this service was "Peek-a-boo", the play where you hide behind a pillow and suddenly reappear and the child screams happily. "But the domain was taken" says Soren Nielsen disappointed and continues: "If you can call a website google or yahoo or something else silly so why not Chikaboo? - It’s a rhyme!"
