CENTER FOR PRECIOUS MINDS INTRODUCES PROGRAM TO HELP AUTISTIC CHILDREN WITH SOCIAL SKILLS

This program is a key link to helping children with autism overcome the many roadblocks they are faced with on a daily basis. I believe that almost every child who has relationship development issues can be helped," Albu says.

BOCA RATON, FL (PRWEB) December 10, 2003 - The Relationship Development Intervention (RDI) Program is a parent-based clinical treatment for individuals with autism spectrum and other relationship-based disorders. It is the first systematic program designed to help children born with obstacles preventing them from attaining relationship competence.
The RDI Program is based upon the model of Experience Sharing developed by Steven Gutstein, Ph.D. Dr. Gutstein studied the means by which typical children become competent in the world of emotional relationships. His methods are based upon extensive research in typical development as well as scientific studies of individuals in the autism spectrum.

Joyce Albu, Program Director of Autism Services at The Center for Precious Minds, is completing the extensive certification process through Dr. Gutsteins Houston, Texas based, Connections Center. The RDI program is designed for children within the entire range of Autism, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Asperger Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder, not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Non-Verbal Learning Disability (NVLD). Albu, who is one of less than 15 individuals around the country providing this service, says, Parents with children who have social skills deficits and/or relationship-based difficulties will find that the RDI program works extremely well. The preliminary scientific research has proven the success of Dr. Gutsteins model".

The need for the RDI program has Albu traveling across the United States and Canada to assess children. Once the assessment is completed, Albu develops the comprehensive intervention program. "For 16 years I have been working with Autistic children and their families. This program is a key link to helping children with autism overcome the many roadblocks they are faced with on a daily basis. I believe that almost every child who has relationship development issues can be helped," Albu says.
