Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) December 12, 2003 --- The MGM Grands tag line The city of entertainment," was usurped by the Palms Hotel & Casino in a series of brilliant maneuvers. The two-year old, family owned upstart has taken the Las Vegas spotlight from the MGM Grand in spite of MGMs roots in Hollywood. The Palms rose to the top of the must see" attractions in Las Vegas, almost overnight.
MTVs The Real World" was filmed in the Palms where antics of twenty-somethings living large in the Palms suites, hot tubs and clubs were broadcast to a global audience. Now, the Palms Ghostbar is serving as the backdrop for the opening and closing episodes of ABC TVs A Life of Luxury" hosted by Robin Leach of Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous."
After unveiling the Hugh Hefner Suite on its 50th floor, the Palms played host to the founder of Playboy as he celebrated the 50th anniversary for the magazine in September 2003. Hefner and his entourage of leggy blondes received extensive press coverage during their sojourn at the Palms. The room is available on weekends for $2,500 per night, a newsworthy item in itself.
Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. on the Bravo channel, episodes of Celebrity Poker," featuring Ben Affleck, Martin Sheen and 23 other stars competing in a charity tournament are being aired. On January 13, 2004 the ultimate winner will receive $100,000 for a favorite cause. The tournament takes place in the Palms Key West Room.
On the other end of the creativity spectrum, the MGM Mirage can lay claim to 3 different versions of Cirque du Soleil, Mystere" at Treasure Island, O" at the Bellagio, Zumanity" at New York NY and next year the MGM Grand will host yet another Cirque du Soleil production. If MGM Mirage is trying to keep visitors in its properties, itll have to take a lesson from the Palms. One has to ask; how many circuses does a tourist want to see on a 3 day trip to Vegas? And these dont even have any lions or tigers," said Bill Berdux, a Las Vegas analyst. It doesnt look like theres much marketing genius behind MGMs strategy.
