Home Interior Design led by the Nose

Creative use of scents in your home can add a new dimension to it. By using a few simple suggestions, your guests will leave wondering why your home décor felt so right.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (PRWEB) December 12, 2003 --The interior of your home is a reflection of you that friends and family gaze into every visit. They closely inspect your color choices, fabrics, arrangements, and furniture to measure its appeal. They note how good or bad the material of your couch feels against their skin; they rub their hands along the coffee table to feel its texture. Take this natural tendency of your guests and turn it to your favor by adding a new dimension to your home for them to explore. Do something that they dont expect: use their sense of smell to carry your motif with scented votive candles.

The key is to work with a rooms theme", says Bill Peer, President and CEO of Los Tomases Candle Makers LLC. For example , he continues, if you are working with a Southwestern décor, consider using natural scents of the region such as Pinion, White Sage, or Sweetgrass." These smells will evoke a strong sense of the Southwest, but your guests may not be able to pinpoint why. They will simply attribute their complete sense of being in the Southwest to a well decorated room. Even color matching is simple; Pinion comes in soft green, White Sage in a soft gray, and Sweetgrass in yellow. Other room styles lend themselves to creative candle usage as well.

For each décor style, there is a right mix of votive candles to use. Consider a Jewel tone room where cozy scents fit nicely. The votive manufacturer recommends Cinnamon and its comforting scent; Sandalwood and its soothing, earthy smell; or Lavender and its relaxing fragrance. Each of these aromas compliment the rooms cozy momentum", Peer says. For a cool and airy room, light and pleasant aromas are a must. Use melon scents such as Cucumber Melon, Honeydew Melon, Watermelon, Melon, or Cantaloupe to carry this rooms theme. You can even adjust the perception of time. One neat trick, for those who have a room full of antiques, is to age the room by using Frankincense, Myrrh, or Patchouli", Peer offers. He notes that churches have used these candles for years, so these scents automatically evoke an old feel.

Youve spent a lot of time making your home feel just right; you may even have some music softly playing in the background that matches the mood. With just a bit of aromatic creativity, you can propel your home into a true high definition experience that your guests will never forget.
