Carol Craig Chosen For Top Forty Under 40 Award

Carol Craig, President of Craig Technical Consulting, was chosen as one of the Top Forty Under 40 award recipients in Hampton Roads, VA.

Carol Craig of Virginia Beach was chosen as one of the Top Forty Under 40 award recipients in Hampton Roads, VA. Ms. Craig, an engineering graduate of Knox College and University of Illinois and former Naval Flight Officer, currently instructs Navy F-14 and F-18 pilots in Tactical Mission Planning. She is the CEO of Craig Technical Consulting, Inc., a small computer software consulting firm. Her company develops and designs software solutions for commercial and government clients.

Besides her 40+ work hours, Craig has been the secretary, treasurer and webmaster for the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR) since her son was born with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). PWS is a rare genetic disorder that disrupts hormone levels. Many of the victims of this disease feel an insatiable hunger and have been know to forage food from garbage containers in an effort to satisfy their unending hunger. Other symptoms include cognitive delays, low muscle tone, scoliosis, speech impediments, and behavioral difficulties. In the past, diagnosis was found only after a child had begun gaining excessive weight, however, new tests can now be performed at birth resulting in early diagnosis. Once diagnosed, treatment includes growth hormone and dietary supplements. Because of an early diagnosis, Ms. Craig's son, Danny, is doing extremely well. Her hope that Danny will have a normal life motivates her to remain actively involved in FPWR.

Ms. Craig is also active in her church, sings in the choir, and plays hand bells and piano. She volunteers at St Mary's Home for Disabled Children, where here son spent six weeks after birth. She designs and maintains the Virginia Beach Symphony Orchestra Web site as well.
