Spiders From Venus - New all-women's tribute to David Bowie is released
Covers-only record label, Skipping Discs, has just released its third compilation, "Spiders From Venus: Indie Women Artists and Female-Fronted Bands Cover David Bowie."
East Templeton, MA (PRWEB) December 15, 2003 --Critically-acclaimed covers-only record label, Skipping Discs, has just released its third compilation CD, "Spiders From Venus: Indie Women Artists and Female-Fronted Bands Cover David Bowie."
This 19-track CD feature covers of songs spanning David Bowie's career from "Space Oddity" to "Heathen," performed by such diverse acts as Canadian twin pop/folkies Tegan and Sara (with numerous appearances on MTV, MTV2, and MuchMusic), The Switchblade Kittens, Shesus, Astrid Young (of Neil Young's band), and Essra Mohawk, whose 1970 release "Primordial Lovers" was cited in a 1977 Rolling Stone review as one of the "25 all-time best albums."
The compilation also features the band Lunasect, whose contribution to the "Anyone Can Play Radiohead" tribute CD was singled out in another Rolling Stone review as the only "track which shows a glimpse of the promise this album might have had." (July 11, 2001)
The CD's cover art features a classic 1972 photo of David Bowie from legendary rock photographer Mick Rock.
"Spiders From Venus" was officially released on December 11, 2003.
This is the Skipping Discs label's third release. Their first two releases, "Saturday Night Hay Fever" (bluegrass covers of disco hits) and "Love Her Madly" (an all-women's tribute to The Doors), both received considerable airplay and some very impressive reviews, although the former title was slammed by the bluegrass purist community.
