Awareness Campaign on Obesity Epidemic Announced
The Chauncey H. Robinson Youth Foundation launches social marketing campaign to educate the African American community about childhood/adolescent obesity.
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) December 16, 2003 --LEAN ON ME" will serve as the message for the Chauncey H. Robinson Youth Foundations full court press media campaign to call awareness to the high rate of childhood / adolescent obesity in the African American community, announced Chauncey H. Robinson, CEO and Founder of the Atlanta based philanthropic and program oriented organization .
According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, 30% of middle schools students aged 11-14 and 27% of high school students aged 14-18 are overweight or at risk for being overweight. African American youth are more likely to be overweight or at risk for being overweight.
We will use cable TV, radio, print, the Internet and public events to inform the public about childhood / adolescent obesity and its symptoms and what lifestyle changes one must make to prevent this epidemic" said Robinson.
L.E.A.N. ON M.E. stands for Lets Encourage Activity and Nutrition on My Environment. It is a social marketing campaign developed by the Chauncey H. Robinson Youth Foundations health initiative, Project TEACH (Together Educating Adolescence Concerning Health).
Using a social marketing approach, the purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness about childhood / adolescent obesity that will encourage an increase in physical activity and improve eating habits of underserved and at risk youth specifically African-American youth, ages 10 to 14.
Project TEACH (Together Educating Adolescents Concerning Health) is the health component of the Chauncey H. Robinson Youth Foundation. It was developed to promote health and disease prevention initiatives among adolescent youth. The primary objective of Project TEACH is to help inner city communities mobilize resources to support programs that eliminate the health disparities experienced by racial and ethnic minorities.
Project TEACH health priorities include asthma; obesity; sickle cell screening and management; cardiovascular disease; diabetes; STD prevention and education; and HIV/AIDS. Project TEACH is also a national partner with the Department of Health and Human Services Closing the Health Gap Initiative.
The Chauncey H. Robinson Youth Foundation is a philanthropic and program oriented organization whose mission is to fund and further the development of present programs that serve the community in the following areas: Health, Education, and Cultural needs of inner city communities.
