BACKYARD WRESTLING returns to THEATERS
Independent feature film THE BACKYARD, which was recently released on DVD via Image Entertainment, Inc. returns to theaters January 9th 2004. This is incredibly rare for a film to receive two theatrical releases.
THE BACKYARD is the award winning and controversial documentary about backyard wrestling across America. Backyard wrestling is where kids imitate professional wrestlers and stage dangerous matches in their backyards using weapons such as staple guns, barbed wire, glass and fire. THE BACKYARD profiles several participants who engage in bloody matches often with their parents support. THE BACKYARD was filmed in Nevada, Arizona, California and New York.
A hit on the festival circuit THE BACKYARD won many awards including the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the Brooklyn International Film Festival, Best Picture at The Silver Lake Film Festival, Best Lounge Film at The Sonoma Film Festival and Director's Choice Award at The Texas Film Festival. THE BACKYARD then played across America at Art-House theaters.
Director Paul Hough said "I'm delighted and amazed that THE BACKYARD will return to theaters. The film's success has far surpassed my expectations."
THE BACKYARD will also open in Theaters (10 cities) across Germany, January 27th 2004.
Hough added "It's incredible to think that a film shot on a consumer camcorder has made it into a country where most of the films are state-funded. In a way this is the Blair Witch of documentaries."
