Smokes Place, Inc. Announces Motivational Wellness for Youth
Smokes Place, Inc provides motivational wellness seminars focused on obesity for children and adolescents.
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 20, 2003 --Smokes Place, Inc. today announced a series of obesity awareness, management and prevention seminars for youth. Designed as motivational sessions for children and adolescents, each seminar can also be customized to accommodate the needs of a diverse range of audiences.
Smokes Place realizes the imperative to provide such a needed service since obesity adversely impacts an incredible amount of young people. According to just about every U.S. government agency that reports on health and disease, young children and adolescents are now developing health problems that used to be generally associated with adults and senior citizens." states Smokey Montgomery, President of Smokes Place, Inc. The American Obesity Association reports that Approximately 30.3 percent of children (ages 6 to 11) are overweight and 15.3 percent are obese. For adolescents (ages 12 to 19), 30.4 percent are overweight and 15.5 percent are obese." The report also states Diabetes, hypertension and other obesity-related chronic diseases that are prevalent among adults have now become more common in youngsters."
Montgomery continues, Furthermore, instead of slowing down, increasing obesity in youth is a disturbing trend that is on the rise." According to yet another recent report1 Overweight adolescents often become overweight adults, with an increased risk for a wide variety of poor health outcomes including diabetes, stroke, heart disease, arthritis and certain cancers.2, 3 The immediate consequences of overweight in childhood are often psychosocial but also include cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and the precursors to diabetes."4
Many youth, that I encounter, have no real clue about the immediate and later in life consequences of being overweight, never mind being obese. Part of the Smokes Place mission is to shake them up a bit to make them face reality and then provide them with the good news -- there is a lot they can do to combat overweight and obesity. When they come to a Smokes Place seminar, they will have fun while learning how to be healthy and live longer." concludes Montgomery.
