fHoliday Meals For Seniors
Seniors who want to participate in holiday congregate meal programs should check with their local senior meal programs so see if reservations are necessary. Most meal programs have plenty of space but holiday times can be especially uncertain when trying to determine how much food to prepare.
For those who have no family or whose family lives a long distance away, the holiday blues and even depression are quite common. Festivities at local senior centers often help to not only provide a sound holiday meal but to allow seniors to interact and socialize with their peers and volunteers.
Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) December 21, 2003 --Seniors who want to participate in holiday meal programs should check with their local senior meal programs so see if reservations are necessary. Most meal programs have plenty of space but holiday times can be especially uncertain when trying to determine how much food to prepare.
Even if reservations are not required by the local senior center, it is helpful to those that volunteer there time to have information about how many people will be coming. Volunteers are also necessary as the extra burden of the holidays and the services that are provided are placed on senior centers and home food distribution centers such as Mobile Meals or Meals-on-Wheels.
The holiday season is one of the loneliest times of the year for many seniors. For those who have no family or whose family lives a long distance away, the holiday blues and even depression are quite common.
Festivities at local senior centers often help to not only provide a sound holiday meal but to allow seniors to interact and socialize with their peers and volunteers. Plenty of good food, snacks, and games are typically part of the holiday events at senior centers.
Finding local senior centers and food distribution centers is not always easy though. Since these locations are locally run, they can go by a wide variety of names and they seldom find the need to advertise. Other than holiday meals, seniors may sometimes have to spend time on a waiting list before service can begin.
