The Taiwan Cession Scandal
The US Dept. of State, Dept. of Defense, and the White House have hidden the truth about the "international status" of Taiwan a secret for over fifty years . . . . . because the truth could cost them their jobs!
(PRWEB) December 30, 2003 --Many articles have been written in scholarly academic journals discussing the international status of Taiwan. Neither the USA, the UN, nor most of the world community regards Taiwan as a sovereign country, although in fact it appears to meet the criteria for "statehood" according to Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention. The United States strives actively to promote democracy throughout the world. The United States opposes any moves toward Taiwan independence.
Although the PRC contends that Taiwan is actually PRC territory, in fact the historical record shows that since the founding of the PRC on October 1, 1949, it has never had "administrative control" over Taiwan for even one day. The so-called "Republic of China" on Taiwan is not recognized as a legitimate government under the Taiwan Relations Act, which uses the terminology "the governing authorities on Taiwan."
In terms of international law, the document of highest ranking weight in regard to the Taiwan status question is the San Francisco Peace Treaty of April 28, 1952. In that treaty, Japan renounced all right, claim, and title to "Formosa and the Pescadores", but these areas were not ceded to any other country.
Despite all these seeming contradictions, a full and comprehensive explanation of Taiwan's correct international position may be obtained by researching the Law of War, and the history of United States territorial cessions. There is a direct line of legal reasoning to say that Taiwan is actually US territory, and the Taiwanese have been denied their fundamental rights under the US Constitution for over 50 years.
