Local Chiropractor Gary Olson "Jailed" by MDA

Charged with "Having a Big Heart"

Commack, NY (PRWEB) December 30, 2003 --Commack resident Dr. Gary Olson showed his support for the local chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association by allowing himself to be arrested" at his office and taken to a location where he remained incarcerated" until he posted bail. The bail money came from donations made by friends, family, and patients who wanted to support Dr. Olson in his efforts to raise funds for the MDA.

I was more than glad to donate my time to such a worthwhile cause," said Dr. Olson. The MDA has so many volunteers who do the same for both the victims of muscular dystrophy and their families. It was the least I could do."

Gary Olson began his career as a physical therapist assistant, working with injured patients at Judith Manns Physical Therapy Office in Commack, and volunteering at St. Johns Episcopal Hospital and the Northport Veterans Hospital. His interest in the health field grew, and he re-enrolled in college to study more of the physical sciences. Soon he became aware of how physical fitness could build up the immune system, stave off debilitating and age-related illnesses, and promote a better sense of well being. He pursued that course of study, eventually obtaining his Personal Fitness Training Certification from the American Council on Exercise. For three years he trained athletes, dancers, body builders, and fitness enthusiasts.

With sports and fitness training comes injury and pain, conditions he wanted to treat not only in his clients, but in the general population. He applied and was accepted to Logan Chiropractic College, where he graduated in 1999.

He is now one of only a few licensed chiropractors to fuse experience as a personal trainer with the health field. He set up practice in Commack, where he specializes in Active Release Techniques ( A.R.T.), a state-of-the-art, hands-on, soft tissue manipulation that treats the problems of the musculoskeletal system (defined further on his website, www.drgaryolson.com).

As a fitness trainer, Dr. Olson does make house calls. He is a strong proponent of Core Stability Training, exercise techniques that strengthen the bodys core muscles; stabilizing the spine, pelvis, and shoulders to create a solid base of support. Not only is this beneficial to athletes, but it is considered essential to anyone seeking to stave off the age-related problems of spine compression and sloping posture.

Dr. Olson continues to avail himself as a volunteer. He believes in giving back to the community that trusts in his abilities to train and heal. While dining at Ruby Tuesdays, waiting to be bailed out," he vowed to help raise funds for those that are physically challenged. Ive studied both the strengths and frailties of the human body," he says We need to support research to overcome the frailties."
