(PRWEB) December 31, 2003 --Nic Walkers first show of paintings at Haze Gallery reflects a new phase in this prolific artists work. Walkers art is dark and multilayered, often made of and on found, weathered materials. Born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Walker is a legend within the Portland indie art scene. Without previous gallery representation Walker has sold over 400 works since 2000. Walker has had sell out shows at the Little Wing Café, Fleck, 4x Gallery (onetime Everett Station Lofts) and Three Square Grill. Walker has recently been a participant in Red 76s Art Stall, Portland Independent Salon 2001 and over fifty other shows.
Walkers show at Haze Gallery, "Bargain Basement Used Cars", is an exciting opportunity for his both his established collectors and for those who have never seen his work before. With its' huge walls and ample space, Haze Gallery is a perfect venue to display Walkers new series of large scale paintings inspired by the grainy black and white photographs in used car magazines. Inspired by the art of Twombly, Beuys and others, these paintings are reminiscent in feel to photographs of old crime scenes. Taking the tiny pictures from used car magazines and blowing them up to fit into a painted grid of eight four by four feet paintings, these woks have an eerie and timeless feel.
Of Walkers work, longtime supporter Jeff Jahn has said "The Haze gallery should give Nic an ample opportunity to show what he can do within its impressive space and Nic is the only indie artist with a collector base capable of establishing a gallery outright. This should be an exciting confluence of artistic talent, gallery nerve and art collectors who find the Pearl District a bit prissy or overly precious."
Haze Gallery is an exciting new space located in the building that housed the Modern Zoo. Opening party on January 10 to include a performance piece by Walker and music by Nic Walkers band, Djin Teeth [Fangs], Avery Bell and Evolutionary Jass Band. Gallery hours are Sat-Sun 12 to 6 and by appointment. The show will benefit the medical treatment of Nic Walkers friend.
