MapInfo and Ordnance Survey Partner to Launch HealthPro to Support Improved Health Provision in Britain
MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) and Ordnance Survey have today launched MapInfo HealthPro
February 12, 2003 – MapInfo Corporation (Nasdaq: MAPS) and Ordnance Survey have today launched MapInfo HealthPro – to help Primary Care Trusts (PCTs), Strategic Health Authorities, Regional Health Authorities and Health Observatories meet the governments NHS modernisation targets.
MapInfo HealthPro enables Health Managers to:
• Predict trends and share information with other authority departments and PCTs
• Dynamically map available resources against patients location and requirements
• Satisfy the regulators
• Deliver information online, empowering patients with multi-channel access
• Meet NHS targets and work with the e-government agenda
• Assess Key Performance Indicators for the local region relative to the national average
The governments decision to allocate 75% of the NHS budget to PCTs will increase the pressure on health directors to improve their management of resources and deliver improved levels of service.
MapInfo HealthPro has been developed by MapInfo in association with Ordnance Survey. Providing sophisticated geographical analysis of healthcare hotspots and trends, MapInfo HealthPro will meet the increased demands of health directors and includes MapInfos software and Ordnance Surveys datasets.
The integration of Ordnance Surveys datasets means that the solution provides a route to purchasing the software and necessary data at an extremely attractive price, set particularly to improve the faster approval of budgets.
James Brayshaw, managing director Digital Brands at Ordnance Survey says, In order to make informed decisions about joined-up healthcare provision, it is vital that health managers have access to up-to-date and accurate location-based data. MapInfo HealthPro contains essential Ordnance Survey data giving PCTs the geographic intelligence to deliver excellent services to their patients and other users."
Mark Gunn, director of marketing, EMEA, MapInfo says, A recent survey shows that 85% of health managers using GIS use MapInfo. Developing a package tailored to the specific needs of health managers builds on this experience and enhances MapInfos support of the public health sector."
Gunn added, Within the NHS, every investment has to be maximised and this can be made simpler and more effective by presenting data about local healthcare provision and local healthcare needs in the form of maps."
According to Paul White, senior information analyst, Sheffield West PCT, There is increased pressure on PCTs to be more proactive about knowing where services are needed and where resources are located, GIS is the only means of doing this quickly and accurately. Without tools like MapInfo it would be difficult to make proactive decisions on healthcare resourcing, it is an essential tool for healthcare organisations."
Pricing and availability:
MapInfo HealthPro will be available from March 2003 and will cost from 9,500.
