The People's Diabetic Fund Honors The Drizen Foundation for Biomedical Research

NEW YORK & TORONTO---Feb. 18, 2003--The People's Diabetic Fund is pleased to announce that the 2003 Diabetic Wound Research Award has been presented to The Drizen Foundation for Biomedical Research because of its involvement with the development of a new topical treatment for diabetic wounds and ulcers [www.drizenfoundation.org, info@drizenfoundation.org, Tel. (905) 893-0631, Fax (905) 893-0689].
Accepting on behalf of The Drizen Foundation for Biomedical Research was Alan Drizen, Esq., who has spent over 35 years as a scientist and Senior Executive in the pharmaceutical industry. Alan Drizen holds a significant number of patents in his name as a principal inventor, including 17 Patents issued to him, et al, from the United States Patent Office.
During the course of his career, Alan Drizen has been responsible for several FDA drug approvals including the Breakthrough Product known as LAM IPM Wound Gel(TM).
The People's Diabetic Fund is a non-profit, tax-exempt, charitable organization established to raise funds to help eradicate Diabetic Retinopathy and to support The Drizen Foundation for Biomedical Research in its current activities, which are focused on the treatment of certain complications of Diabetes, including wounds, which may result in amputations.
The current focus of The People's Diabetic Fund is to raise funds to support the development of new diagnostic and treatment modalities for diabetic patients with the vision threatening disease of Diabetic Retinopathy and also to support researchers addressing non-responsive Diabetic Ulcers, which can lead to amputations. There were 86,000 amputations in the United States last year alone, and the numbers are increasing annually.
