One Mom, 200 Sites
Launch of MomsTown.com Brings New Community to Nations Moms
A mom of three young boys launches an Internet network. MomsTown.com is a network of local sites serving moms in towns across the country. MomsTown.com launched in January 2003 with eight sites. There are now 41 sites online and MomsTown.com is scheduled to have 200 in operation by the end of the year. What makes the network unique is that it contains local information for all 41 towns and each site will be operated by women living in those towns. It is community marketing and community involvement at its best.
Because of the energy and vision of one woman, moms across the country have a new website full of resources and information tailored to their needs as parents and as women. Momstown.com was launched by Heather Reider, a professional journalist and mother of three, in January 2003. Her vision is to provide current, relevant information for mothers, while providing them opportunities to connect with their own communities.
MomsTown.com is a network of localized town sites, to be operated by women in each town served. Momstown.com began with eight sites, and already has 40 towns across the country online. Owner Reider has a vision that will provide moms a stay-at-home business opportunity and at the same time connect moms to their local communities via the Internet. I am planning to have 200 ‘town sites in operation by the end of the year," says Reider. Each town site will be assigned a site director who will localize her site with events, resources, and features unique to her town. MomsTown.com is about recognizing and building communities online.
Momstown.com provides numerous features that women can tap into every day, including an online menu planner, local event listings, womens health and fitness information, parenting tips, and travel ideas.
The site is full of great tips and information for leading a healthy and fulfilling life," says Reider. The site is updated and is truly a local online magazine for moms."
Reider is also planning to help women build a community within their community by providing localized message boards where women in each town can share information and connect with their neighbors.
Reider spent 10 years as a television news reporter and anchor. She retired from the business when she became pregnant with her first child. When I was pregnant for the first time in 1997 there were limited local resources online. And I also wanted to provide inspiration to moms. Thats when I launched HipMoms.com. A site that celebrated moms as women who still had passions, desires, dreams, and hopes."
HipMoms.com enjoyed success at the local level, and in 2002, Reider and a San Diego-based software company decided to give the site a new name and a new market. MomsTown.com is taking that initial celebration of moms to the national level, and at the same time keeping it local.
