The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation Devotes March 2003 to MS Education and Awareness

The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF) has begun an annual national campaign to increase awareness and to educate the public about MS and the work of the MSF, assisting those coping with the disease.

February 27, 2003 Ft. Lauderdale, FL - March 2003 will serve as the first annual National MS Education and Awareness Month, sponsored by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation (MSF). Florida Governor Jeb Bush has officially sanctioned this effort by issuing of a proclamation on behalf of the state, declaring March 2003 as MS Education and Awareness Month. The efforts of this campaign are being recognized nationwide; throughout March, the MSF will provide awareness kits and will sponsor educational activities for those affected by as well as for those interested in learning about MS. Doctors, MS specialists, counselors and volunteers will provide information and inspiration, as the MSF works to increase public support, caring and understanding of those affected by this disease.

Information and a full schedule of events and activities for National MS Education and Awareness Month are posted on www.msfocus.org/nmseams.htm. Information on MS and the MSF is available on the website or by calling the toll free Helpline, 1-888-MSFOCUS (673-6287).

Multiple sclerosis sets no boundaries. It cannot be recognized by just one face - anyone, man or woman, at any age, of any race, religion or social status may be diagnosed. Multiple sclerosis, known as MS, is a chronic, degenerative disease of the central nervous system. People with MS may be affected in an obvious way, unable to care for themselves or confined to a wheelchair. Others with MS may not show a single visible symptom; in fact, you may know someone with MS and have no idea that person is affected. Multiple sclerosis is often called an invisible" disease, though it does indeed exist. More than 400,000 Americans have MS and another person is diagnosed every hour of every day, every year. There is no cure yet for MS, but there is hope and there are ways to help.
