NEW YORK ISLANDERS ALUMNI PLAY HOCKEY TO HELP SAVE CHILDREN'S LIVES
Friday, March 21, 2003 - Hockey greats from the New york Islanders will play a team organized by Dr. Sean Levchuck of St Francis Hospital. Proceeds will go to the Gift of Life, Inc., a charity that provides open heart surgery to needy children around the world. Gift of Life, Inc. was started by Rotarians on Long Island, NY in 1975.
The Fourth Skate for Life hockey event will be held on Friday, March 21, 2003 at Cantiague Park and will feature the New York Islander Alumni players including Bob Nystrom and Clark Gillies in a charity ice hockey game.
The Gift of Life, Inc. is a volunteer project of Rotary District 7250, Long Island, encompassing Rotary Clubs of Nassau, Brooklyn, and Queens incorporated as a non-profit foundation back in 1975.
Their mission is to bring the miracle of life saving open heart surgery to children world wide. To date they have saved the lives of over 2,500 children in over 60 nations of the world.
The cost of saving a child's life ranges from as little as $500 to $5,000.00, which covers the severely reduced hospital and operating room costs. The surgeons donate their services. Volunteers and Rotarians host the children and provide food and transportation. Gift of Life Hospitals are doing this work not only in the USA, but in other nations too. There are several in Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
This hockey traditional game was started and organized by Sean Levchuck, M.D., "Together we can make a difference both savings children's lives and encouraging humanitarian compassion for those less fortunate, help us to help others through your sponsorship in our Fourth Skate for Life."
