Shirts donated to charity to benefit the Rhode Island fire tragedy.
The horrible Station nightclub fire has brought out the good in some people. A husband and wife with a heart and an idea find a creative way to raise money for the victims and the families of that horrible evening at the Great White Concert.
Joe and Debbie Mammone, graphic designers in Massachusetts are auctioning T-shirts bearing their original design to help two boys who lost their mother on that horrible evening.
Laura Gillet, 32, of Massachusetts went to the Great White show with her boyfriend, Shawn Sweet, 28, who had bought the tickets as a Valentine's Day present. Both perished in the fire. Gillet was friends with Mrs. Mammone and her sister.
"She left behind two boys, age 3 and 6," the Mammones said. "My sons are 3 and 5. It really hit home for us. I may have attended that night."
The Mammones designed the shirts to commemorate the tragedy. They will donate all of the proceeds from one shirt to an education fund for the children at the South Shore Savings Bank in South Weymouth. Money raised with the other shirt will go to the United Way of Rhode Island relief fund.
In addition to the auctions, The Mammones are selling shirts with their original design, a bear with angel wings inside a heart, on their Web site, www.portraitpawprints.com. All of the profits are going to charity.
This was the 4th worst fire in US history.
