HauteSpot Networks announces wireless Internet "Instant HauteSpotTM" Wi-Fi solution
HauteSpot Networks offers a "Hotspot-in-a-Box" system, "Instant HauteSpotTM", that allows individuals and businesses of any shape and size to offer wireless 802.11b internet service to the public without the headaches of installation, configuration, support, ongoing-maintenance, billing, and network administration. We service customers on the California Central Coast from Ventura to Monterey.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA - March 08, 2003 -- Wireless Internet Hot Spots are HOT! Before you spend another second of your time on a slow Internet connection, you might want to unplug your phone line and connect by WI-FI, the wireless 802.11 standard. HauteSpot Networks, a service of TransTech Controls, L.L.C. has created an end-to-end broadband wireless Internet hotspot package, Instant HauteSpotTM, that lets businesses, hotels, restaurants and airports easily create zones of wireless Internet access. This plug-and-play "Hotspot-in-a-Box" is fully managed with network and user support, and comes with a complete web-based revenue management tool. A whole new channel of revenue generation is being created for property owners.
HauteSpot Networks is unique in it's comprehensive, no-risk, service, it's revenue sharing model with venue owners, it's comprehensive roaming network, and it's depth of experience in wireless networking.
The HauteSpot Networks Instant HauteSpotTM is a complete turn-key solution for property owners. HauteSpot Networks will survey the site, provision all the land line connections, install and configure all the equipment, and then operate the site on behalf of the property owner including billing, authorization, security, and 24x7 technical support.
HauteSpot Networks revenue model is much like pay telephone service, HauteSpot Networks evaluates a site's potential and if it looks like they can cover their operating costs, then they will install everything at their own expense. The property owner provides the location, electricity, and access to the property for maintenance. In return, the property owner shares in the revenue of the site.
Customers at the location can access the Internet using a wireless connection from their laptop computer or PDA. All the hardware they need is a wireless network adapter card, which property owners can stock and sell at their locations. When a customer first establishes their wireless connection, they are presented with a welcome screen where they can enter their user account information. Customers can subscribe on an hourly, daily or monthly subscription basis and can pay through a variety of methods, including credit card, MSN or Yahoo, or with prepaid cards available for sale through the property owner or on line. Rates can vary by location, but are generally $2.99 per hour to $29.99 a month. Similar to other Internet services. Venue owners receive a share of the subscription fees generated by users at their location.
Once a customer subscribes to HauteSpot Networks, they have full roaming capabilities through a variety of affiliate networks including Boingo and iPASS. Meaning that a subscriber can access wireless Internet anywhere they travel. There are currently in excess of 2000 Hot Spots in the US affiliated with Boingo or iPASS.
"The world is on the cusp of treating wireless Internet hotspots like cell phones. The Internet is quickly becoming a part of our daily lives, and we expect it to be present wherever we conduct business, study, drink coffee, or travel," says HauteSpot Networks President, Bob Ehlers. "What makes our organization so special is that we take the entire process of ordering, configuring, installing and operating a Hot Spot and make it a simple, low cost, turn key solution."
The founders of HauteSpot Networks have a long history of wireless and wired Internet. Mr. Ehlers started CafeDot.Com in Colombo Sri Lanka back in 1994. This was the first wireless Internet service provider in Asia, using VSAT based satellite downlinks to wireless hub points in Colombo and Kandy. "Our target customers were remotely located garment factories that needed communications with their customers back in the US," said Ehlers. "Unfortunately, the government owned ISP didn't like the competition, and imposed a tax structure on us that made the business unprofitable, so we had to shut that venture down," continued Ehlers. After moving to Oakland California in 1996, Mr. Ehlers began WHISPer networks, another wireless ISP, which targeted providing service to the recently decommissioned Alameda Navel Air Station, and the City of Oakland for it's Year 2000 software audits. This business was very successful and was sold to Jack London Networks in 1999. "We have over a decade of experience in providing wired and wireless Internet services, this includes designing complex RF projects, network operations, billing and sales," said Ehlers, "Something few in our industry can claim."
Wireless Internet analysts are predicting that the current $2 billion WI-FI industry will expand at a compounded growth rate of 30 percent to nearly a $6 billion industry. This would put WI-FI wireless Internet access on par with household name brands like Budweiser, and in line with growth in the mobile PC industry. HauteSpot Networks offers Instant HauteSpot to capitalize on the growth of WI-FI, and to share the wealth with property owners and business people who otherwise don't have the time, technical expertise or interest in installing and maintaining a wireless Hot Spot.
