Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2003 – A cross section of Nigerian-American professionals living in the USA have publicly announced the kick-off of a political campaign in support of Drs. Muhammadu Buhari and Chuba Okadigbo, candidates of the All Nigerian People Party (ANPP) in the upcoming Presidential election to be held on April 19, 2003.

It is our hope that all Nigerians will support the Buhari/Okadigbo ticket," said Dr. Chinua Akukwe, Chairman of the Buhari/Okadigbo Presidential Campaign USA. Our members have closely analyzed past and present administration and we feel that Muhammadu Buhari and Chuba Okadigbo best represent the true interests of all Nigerian citizens."

Utilizing both scientific and political analyses, campaign members are supporting the ANPP ticket based on a study of the candidates policies concerning political accountability, educational standards, agricultural progress and Nigerian advancement in the global economy. Campaign supporters refer to the Buhari/Okadigbo ticket as the most balanced and efficient representation to move Nigeria towards a true and complete democracy and one that will be beneficial to Nigeria in realizing its economic aspirations."

Dr. Muhammadu Buhari, a man known for having cultivated strong character and citizenship among Nigerians, is supported by the Nigerian professionals because he brings to the ticket a wealth of proven government leadership experience and honest character. In his association with Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, another proven leader known for his support of separation of power among the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches and as a Political Science and Philosophy professor in the U.S. and Great Britain, campaign supporters believe the team has the best interests of Nigerian citizens in focus.

The Buhari/Okadigbo ticket heavily promotes education," said Akukwe. We believe that investment in Nigerian literacy for both children and adults is a key asset to the economic success of Nigeria and its growth towards securing a promising share of the global market."

Though the present administration has touted achievements in education, ANPP supporters find them sorely lacking in results." A campaign spokesman offered: The school teachers are constantly on strike due to lack of adequate salaries and benefits, schools are closed a majority of academic year and policies concerning student safety and well-being are virtually non-existent."

We want a President for all Nigerians and not for any particular ethnic or elite group," said Salisu Abdullah, chapter coordinator for New York/Tri-State campaign supporters. Our investigation of the Buhari/Okadigbo team has convinced us that they hold in their hearts the best interests of the Nigerian people."
