NEW YORK, MARCH 18 -- SILBERWARE -- the new integrated marketing communications firm founded by award-winning copywriter and creative director Mark Silber -- is off to a fast start. Which has some people shaking their heads.
ÂWe kind of thought he was smart and talented,Â says a former co-worker. ÂBut we had absolutely no reason to think he might succeed on his own.Â
SilberÂs mother, Rita, concurs. ÂI always told people he was the best,Â she explained. ÂBut that was just because IÂm his mother.Â
Clients, however, seem to be judging Silber on one criterion: the work. Since the beginning of the year, SILBERWARE has received assignments from Applegate Farms, CentrPort Software, First Albany Companies, and Max Racks, which joined the roster alongside existing clients Direct Response Technologies and Flamenco Networks.
The work includes advertising, brand strategy, collateral materials, naming, package design, presentations, sales kits, and web marketing and design. All have professed satisfaction with SilberÂs efforts to date, and a number have returned with additional assignments.
ÂThese clients all required something different, but they all needed it quickly, and on a reasonable budget,Â Silber says. ÂMy business development strategy of offering virtually anything marketing communications-related, and doing it pretty much overnight for an embarrassingly low price, has turned out to be ingenious.Â Total billings to date are under $1 million.
Clients may be validating SILBERWARE, but not everyone is convinced. ÂIÂll have no comment until the DNA results are back,Â SilberÂs wife said, dropping a handful of hair into an envelope.
SILBERWARE is currently competing in account reviews against larger, established advertising agencies, or, as Silber calls them, Âbloated guardians of the status quo.Â
