73% Say No to Romance at Work

Whether theyve done it before and wouldnt do it again or just think its a bad idea 73% of respondents say they wouldnt date someone from the office."

March 10, 2003, career-intelligence.com announces that 73% of respondents to a recent Romance poll reported that they wouldnt date someone they work with." Conducted in honor of Valentines Day, the poll asked respondents, Have you dated someone you work with?" Possible answers ranged from Yes, and I would do it again" to No, my office doesnt allow it."

We were surprised at the results," said Annette Richmond, principal of Rowayton-based Richmond Consulting Group and founder of career-intelligence.com. Today people seem to be spending longer hours at the office, so we expected more of a mix. However, the overwhelming response was ‘no, I wouldnt date someone in the workplace."

In answer to the question, Have you dated someone at your office?" 42% of respondents said they did not date coworkers because they didnt think it was a good idea, 31% said that they had dated a colleague but wouldnt do it again. Only 16% said not only had they dated someone from their office, they would do it again, while 11% reported that they hadnt ruled it out. None of the respondents indicated that their offices banned dating between co-workers.

The poll ran on career-intelligence.com (www.career-intelligence.com) for approximately one month, February 7th to March 8th 2003. There were 98 respondents. career-intelligence.com is part of Richmond Consulting group, which provides guidance, workshops and seminars on a wide range of career management and work-related issues.
