Sgt. Moms was the first support site of its kind on the web, established in 1995. Since then it has grown to include information not only for spouses but extended family as well. In the past year, in fact, the numbers of parents of military personnel visiting her site has grown substantially. With over 1,000 registered users and countless unregistered guests Sgt. Mom has been a calm voice amidst the storm.
Most military spouses have the built-in support of the Family Support Groups, Family Service Centers on bases and that of the other spouses. For parents though, it is another story. Most parents are miles away from any type of military base. Even if they are close to a base it is not open for them to access support there. Sgt. Moms Place is full of needed information, supportive message forums, and a friendly email group as well. Parents of military personnel, as well as spouses, need to know they can get the support and information needed at Sgt. Moms Place.
Carrie Lee, aka Sgt. Mom, has been a military spouse for over 19 years. She has also undergone intensive training to spend time as a rape/crisis counselor. Add to this her training in the Naval Ombudsman Program and all three levels of Army Family Team Building and you have a woman with the knowledge and empathy to handle almost any situation.
