Federal Way Public Academy holds March 29th
Gala Auction
Proceeds to impact science program as well as upcoming move to new building
In these tight budget times, Federal Way Schools are becoming more dependent on fund raising events to meet the basic needs of the classroom. No where is this more the case than at the new and innovative Federal Way Public Academy. As with many schools, parents of the publicly funded academy are dedicating themselves to making sure the schools has the tools it needs. The science classroom is using copies of pages because we dont have enough text books for each student", explains Karol Brossel, whos daughter Kara attends the highly regarded academy. Brossel and her husband Ken are leading a group of parents planning the 4th Annual Auction and Gala March 29th, at the Twin Lakes Country Club. Dr. Ken Brossel, a local dentist, thinks charity auctions are an efficient way of raising needed resources for the classroom. Auctions are a great way to bring parents and members of the community together for a fun evening event, which is a rare occasion in our area".
The evening program, which includes more than 100 silent and over 50 live auction items promises to be fun and interesting. Two notable live auction items include a day aboard a working tug boat and a driving class in a Porsche Racecar at Pacific Raceways. Several class projects will be sold to the highest bidder as well. Each classroom creates a project based on a theme chosen by the students. For those parents wanting to add a car to the family stable, a special $20.00 key raffle is offered to win a late model Toyota Cressida. Im quite excited about the unique auction items this group has put together", states Dr. Ray Griffin, Principal of FWPA. A veteran administrator, Dr. Griffin acknowledges the need for up scale fund raising events. The needs of the faculty and the classroom are no longer met with basic funding so the money raised from events like this is put to use right away".
Karol Brossel is grateful for all the time and energy the planning team has put towards making this auction happen. Im thankful for all the time, energy and creativity this committee has given to this event". The Brossels hosted in home dinners and parties in an effort to get parents and members of the community excited about putting on a fun and entertaining event. Weve worked for the past six months and Im excited about the benefits this event will provide for the academy", says Karol. The event which begins with the silent auction at 5 PM, will be hosted by emcee Karissa Bryant, who represented Federal Way at The Miss Washington Pageant as Miss Evergreen 2001. In her last year of music studies at PLU, Karissa will perform an Opera piece prior to the beginning of the live auction. Tickets are $25.00, which includes dinner and available on-line, http://www.fwsd.wednet.edu/pa/ or by calling the FWPA at 253-945-4680.
