Stubbornt Turtle Media, non-profit media arts organization behind the successful Five and Dime International Screenplay Competition has partnered with the Script Factory, the U.K.'s premier screenwriting organization, to co-present thei first ever staged reading here in the U.S.
Hollywood, CA – March 27, 2003 – This fall Stubborn Turtle Media, creators of the Five and Dime Screenplay Contest, will produce their premiere U.S. staged reading in partnership with The Script Factory (UK). Hollywood is mythical in our industry. The idea of bringing The Script Factory to Hollywood is both daunting and unbearably exciting! This partnership feels like the beginning of something big," says The Script Factory Co-Director, Lucy Scher. Over the coming months Stubborn Turtle Media will be searching for the perfect script, cast, and venue for this first-time event. In an industry which often overlooks the contributions of the screenwriter, an integral player in the filmmaking process, we are proud to partner with an organization that is successfully bringing the art of screenwriting to center stage," explains Maya May, Stubborn Turtle Medias Program Director.
Founded in 2002, Stubborn Turtle Media, a non-profit media arts organization, is dedicated to fostering collaborations between Los Angeles area artists and the global entertainment community. Through innovative ongoing events and programs we seek to encourage aspiring, emerging and established filmmakers to pursue creative endeavors that look beyond Hollywoods borders. Stubborn Turtle Medias initial project, The Five and Dime Screenplay Competition, is carving a niche for itself in the world of screenplay competitions. The first to truly open Hollywoods doors to foreign language writers, the competition accepts submissions in Japanese, Italian, English, French and Spanish. The contest is an unparalleled platform for bringing Hollywood insiders together with emerging local and international writers.
Since 1996, The Script Factory has staged rehearsed readings of un-produced screenplays to audiences made up of industry professionals and film enthusiasts. Their aim is to assist the art of screenwriting and the development of the script, by enabling writers to see their work read by casts of the highest quality, while at the same time demonstrating the production potential of the project to the people who turn scripts into movies. Probably the biggest problem with films right now can be traced back to the way they are scripted and the processes of script development. What The Script Factory is doing is confronting this problem head on." Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas, One Night Stand, Time Code)
