TalonPR and Risner Naukam Design Group Enable Businesses to Generate Publicity through Viral Marketing"

DALLAS and TOPEKA, Kans. (April 4, 2003) - - TalonPR, Inc., a public relations and strategic communications agency, and Risner Naukam Design Group, Inc. (RNDG), a marketing and creative services agency, are leveraging simple and fun Internet games with viral marketing" strategies to help companies gain substantial word-of-mouth publicity.

Viral Marketing: Tag-Teaming Technology with Word of Mouth" Publicity

TalonPR, Inc., a public relations and strategic communications agency, and Risner Naukam Design Group, Inc. (RNDG), a marketing and creative services agency, are leveraging simple and fun Internet games with viral marketing" strategies to help companies gain substantial word-of-mouth publicity.

The key to viral marketing is to develop a hook" that will captivate the target audience and offer enough entertainment value that the participant will want to share it with their friends and colleagues. RNDG and TalonPR will work together to customize a game or contest that is relevant to a companys prospective customer base and integrate marketing or educational messages into the presentation. The resulting product will be an entertaining, engaging and interactive presentation that would be sent initially from a company to its existing customer base by email and will (a) inform prospective customers about the companys products and services, (b) encourage participants to invite their friends and colleagues to play the game, and (c) increase brand recognition, up-selling opportunities to existing customers and growth in referral-based business.

Have you ever received something that you absolutely had to share with friends, co-workers, etc. and they, in turn, pass along to their friends and co-workers? This is what viral marketing is all about-spreading the word in a way that is very well received because the recipients know the person who sent it to them," said Jeff Naukam, co-founder and principal of Risner Naukam Design Group, Inc. Using the power of the Internet and our interactive technology, existing customers and prospects will become your newest sales force with a simple click."

Viral marketing offers an efficient, low-cost method of spreading the word about a companys products and services. Existing customers receive an e-mail with a link to a Web page that encourages them to play a game to win a prize. Through the course of playing the game, each player views marketing or educational messages related to the sponsoring company. Once the player finishes the game, their score, name and email address is recorded in an online database. The player is then asked if they would like to send the game to a friend and, if so, an email is sent to the new recipient with a personal note from the referrer.

NationWide Flood Research, Inc. (NFRI) recently used the viral marketing program to jump-start a campaign to increase public awareness. It was of specific interest because of its capability to communicate quickly through vertical market segments. Viral marketing offered such a complete and easy solution, including turnkey development, delivery and measurement services, that other software or marketing vendors were unnecessary. NFRIs sales executives can now access referral and response data in an Excel spreadsheet, saving time and allowing them to determine follow-up techniques with new prospects.

We needed to jump-start our public exposure," said Clark Overman, NFRIs VP of operations. Most of our customers in the insurance and mortgage banking industries have friends that work for other firms. This specific concept enabled us to easily penetrate these prospects. Out of 3816 e-mails sent, 5% saved their score and 503 referrals were made. We were even exposed to the public utility and government sectors. You will be surprised where viral marketing can go, and the reporting tools were an interesting daily read to see how far the 'virus spread."
