METICULUS AND MESSAGELABS TEAM TO DELIVER SECURE, VIRUS AND SPAM-FREE ENCRYPTED EMAIL
Provides first scanning system for Red Letter confidential, encrypted email
Meticulus Solutions and global email security and management firm MessageLabs today announced that they are collaborating to deliver secure, virus-free encrypted email to their joint customers in the UK market. The agreement has integrated Meticulus Red Letter secure email system with the MessageLabs service, enabling Red Letter customers to scan secure, confidential emails for viruses, spam and offensive material.
The system is able to scan encrypted emails, meaning that viruses, spam or pornography contained within them are prevented from breaching security through the back door into the corporate network.
Red Letter eliminates the security and confidentiality issues of current email systems, without causing any disruption to either the sender or the recipient of the email. Emails can be sent from any mail application, without the customer having to install any additional software and can be received in any SSL capable web browser. Red Letters first customers in the legal field include Bevan Ashford, Silverbeck Rymer, Decherts and Watson Farley Williams.
By collaborating with MessageLabs we deliver the most comprehensive service on the market to our mutual customers," commented Gordon Olson, chairman, Meticulus Solutions. Previously, encrypted email could not be scanned for viruses, spam or pornography, meaning that it might act as a Trojan Horse into the enterprise, leading to a serious security threat. By working with the market leader Red Letter has plugged this security loophole and can deliver the speed, cost-effectiveness and ubiquity of email with security, confidentiality and recorded delivery built in."
With this collaboration Red Letter emails are securely decrypted at MessageLabs, where they are scanned for viruses, spam and offensive material. Emails are then re-encrypted and delivered as normal.
Red Letter is a unique solution that enables companies to send and receive secure, confidential and auditable email, while retaining the ubiquity, speed and ease of use of traditional email systems," commented Duncan Logan, UK sales director, MessageLabs.
Red Letter is based around a secure server appliance that is situated within the senders firewall. Emails are composed as normal, and simply tagged to be sent by recorded delivery. Recipients then receive a notification email telling them they have new mail ready for collection and inviting the entry of a previously agreed password. On successful entry recipients receive their 128 bit SSL-secured email and any attachments in their web browser, ready to be printed or securely downloaded. The sender gets an automatic receipt once the email is accessed. No additional software is installed and emails are protected using industrial strength encryption. Password-protected audit logs on the server keep full records of all secure emails sent.
The combined solution is available now and is priced at 50 plus 5 per annum per seat licence, on top of the Red Letter server appliance which has a recommended retail price of 2,100.
