OptiCom Inc. Finalizes Plans to be the First Fiber-to-the-Community Network in Missouri
MEXICO, Missouri – (April 4, 2003) – OptiCom Inc. a local company is partnering with market leader Optical Solutions to finalize plans to be the first Fiber-to-the-Community network in Missouri. The network has the capability to deliver voice, high-speed data, and video services to the residents and businesses in the Mexico area.
By utilizing fiber to connect the homes and offices we can greatly expand what services are available. We will also be able to reach the areas of the community that arent presently being served with advanced services like high-speed Internet," said Dan Barker, product development manager. Opticom plans to provide high-speed Internet for the rural population as well by using non-line of site wireless extending the reach of their fiber network in later phases of construction.
This is an exciting project for us to be able to offer services like this in rural Missouri, said Larry Snell, CEO of Opticom. This technology will enable us to give the community more choices about their communication and television services and greatly assist in furthering economic development in the area."
While this would be a first for Missouri, networks like this are being deployed in many other states across the country
