SCRIPTWRITER WANTS PUBLIC TO DECIDE WHICH MOVIES GET MADE
'Let the people who buy the tickets, not the businessmen, decide'
HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA - For the first time in movie history, a scriptwriter is circumventing the Hollywood studios and pitching his Disney-targeted screenplay directly to the public for an audience thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
HOLLYWOOD, FLORIDA - For the first time in movie history, a scriptwriter is circumventing the Hollywood studios and pitching his Disney-targeted screenplay directly to the public for an audience thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
Maxell Savin, a Florida-based writer believes movie-going audiences, rather than studio business types, should decide which movies get made.
"Let the people who buy the movie tickets and rent the videos decide what should be produced," said Savin.
So strongly does Schorr believe in his family-oriented film, The Magic Within, he decided to wage his script sale battle publicly through the national media. Savin is providing the press with a story treatment for The Magic Within and is hoping a strong show of public support will prompt Disney or other studios to give him a call. The public can Email their votes for The Magic Within at voteformagic@hotmail.com.
"If this works, it could revolutionize the way movies and television shows get green-lighted," said an ebullient Savin.
Says one industry analyst, "There's a certain degree of logic to Savin's approach. In our electronic era a 'cinema democracy' is only the click of the mouse away. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out."
